About Us

Mitts 2 Pits Catering is part of a love story of Benjamin & Denise. They met working in the kitchen of a nursing home here in Battle Creek. Dating Denise knew he always wanted his own restaurant and catering business. He has been catering for all of his family, church members and friends for years. So in 2018 when engaged Denise gifted Benjamin LLC name, EIN as a Christmas gift.

In 2021 Mitts 2 Pits Catering began with some small events due to pandemic in 2022 catering events picked up and renting out kitchen space here and there wasn’t going to cut it. So we met with the Kitchen Manager of Sprout and began operations from there. First we just used the space for catering, then to test the market we started with Friday pop ups as that grew customers asked us about Sunday’s because options are limited for Soulfood so we started Soul Food Sundays and the response has been amazing.

Being able to rent out the space at Sprout and test the market, gain a solid customer base then attend cohorts with Northern Initiatives to gain more knowledge we were ready to move into a brick and mortar. We are grateful to Peecoon & Lance Allen for allowing us to lease their building journey into the next phase of Mitts 2 Pits Catering.
